General information

Admission to the BA Philosophy is conducted through the Admission Offices of the University of Vienna.  You can find detailed information regarding deadlines, necessary documents and the admission process here.

The general requirements for admission are:

  • High School Diploma
  • German language skills at C1 level
  • Knowledge of Latin

Information for non-EU/EEA citizens

Students who hold a degree from a non-EU/EEA country may need to take additional steps during admission. Information on admission specifics, as well as language courses (i.e. German courses) can be found at the website for Teaching Affairs and Student Services.

Latin

The BA Philosophy requires proof of Latin competence amounting to at least 10 hours per week.

If Latin was not part of your curriculum during your senior years of highschool, you are required to take an additional exam in Latin before completion of the degree program. Therefore, the Latin exam must not be the last exam you pass before graduating. Additional information regarding the additional exam can be found here. Dates for courses and exams can be found on the homepage of the department for Philology and Cultural Studies.

Admission without High School diploma

Admission without High School diploma is possible, if you take a University entrance exam. All information regarding this can be found here.
